Before you leave, or looking before you leap

You are thinking about relocating? How exciting!

If you want to

  • make sure you are making the right decision;
  • prepare yourself – and your loved ones, if applicable – as best as you can before you go;

you’ve come to the right place.

Making the right decision

Maybe you have a specific job offer or a location in mind that you want/need to make a decision about. Or perhaps you are still in the stage of dreaming about moving abroad but it’s time to get serious about making it happen.

But how do you make sure you get it right?

One size does not fit all. To help you make the decision that is right for you, coaching will help you figure out what you need to have in place to make your move a success. And which aspects look like ‘needs’ but are actually ‘wants’. Or the other way around. The goal is that you take your next step with the confidence that you have the important bases covered and that you made your decision for the right reasons, so you won’t regret it.

Getting ready to relocate

The decision is made, you are moving. And now what? Well, stuff. A lot of it. Jobs, housing, visas, contracts, schools, business, taxes, admin, packing up, moving, storing, sorting – it all needs attention. But although it is a lot, usually the important practical stuff will get done, one way or another. And the rest you can sort out when you get there.

So why coaching? Because for most people it’s the emotional challenges in the relocation process that are most demanding.

Things like

  • feeling excited and having doubts at the same time
  • parenting  your kids when they feel angry or lost,
  • dealing with the feelings of those you leave behind
  • feeling overwhelmed,

And managing all of this while you have a million and one practical things to do.

Coaching will help you make the relocation process a successful one.

I will help you

  • know what to expect so you are prepared to deal with emotional wobbles in your household;
  • stay on top of the practical stuff to keep you from feeling overwhelmed;
  • navigate the emotional waters so you are confident about the move;
  • make sure your emotional needs and those of your partner and kids are taken into account and attended to;
  • deal with tricky situations (telling the kids, dealing with relatives and friends that are upset/ unsupportive);
  • know what you need when you arrive, so you can settle in as smoothly as possible.
